About Our Mix...
★ Whether you feed fresh or a dry mix, it’s important that your rats receive the correct ratios and nutrition they need. Rats “need” the following in their diet: *Approximate values for the last 4 ratios.
This is because carbs and seeds are the “most” important.
75 - 80% Carbohydrates (5% allowance for the carbs in fruit and veg)
50% Whole grains (oats, barley, wheat, basmati rice, buckwheat, sorghum, babala, and corn.)
20% Processed grains (pasta, egg noodles, rice noodles, and cereals.)
5% Legumes
10% Seeds
*2 - 3% Fruit & Veg (More veg than fruit due to the sugar content)
*1 - 2% Added proteins (Fish & Mopane worms - They get a lot of proteins from the carbs ratios)
*1 - 2% Herbs (Fenugreek seed, Garlic, Deep Sea Kelp, Rosehip, and Nettle.)
*2 - 3% Pellets (For added minerals)
★ Rats are omnivore granivores. This means that they get most of their nutrition from grains and seeds. Your pet rat will eat up to 10% of their body weight OR 5g/100g body weight each day. Younger rats will eat more as they need the energy to grow.
★ Always make sure that your rat has access to clean, fresh water. Your rat will drink approx. 10ml/100g body weight per day.
★ You will be required to purchase a bag of our dry mix for your new babies. This is so that
your babies can be transitioned onto the food you intend to give them. If you choose to
continue to feed them the URC Dry Mix please let us know so that we can add you to the
order group.
Dry Mix Options
Basic Mix
For owners who feed fresh daily and want to ensure that their rats are getting all the nutrients they need.
R150 per tub
Whole Grains
Processed Grains
Legumes
Seeds
Herbs
Pellets
* Please note that this is not a complete mix. It is important that you feed your rats the fruit, veg, & proteins they need in addition to this mix.
Eco Mix
To be fed in conjunction with the URC Maintenance Mix (Maintenance 3x weekly, Eco 2x weekly, 2x lean days)
R130 per tub
Legumes
Seeds
Pellets
Mixed fruit and veg, fish, and worms can be purchased separately to add to your mix
Please note: This mix is not designed to be a stand alone "complete" mix. More so a "filler" mix for people who feed fresh fruit, veg, proteins, and grains daily.
For those who use our Maintenance Mix and just want something to feed their rats on alternative days.
Because this mix does not contain the whole grains and processed grains, we encourage you to make your rats some pasta or oats to add to their meal.
Add-on Ingredients
Maintenance Add-On
Use as an add-on to your dry mix or feed in conjunction with a fresh meal.
R80 per tub
Contains:
Dried Fruit & Veg
Dried Fish
Dried Mopane Worms
Herbs
* We suggest adding this to the URC Basic/Eco mix. Alternatively, this add-on can be used in conjunction to a fresh meal of cooked pasta, oats, etc. (NB: Carbohydrates)
* We do not recommend adding this to your existing URC Maintenance Mix as the Maintenance Mix ratios are already appropriate for your rats.
